27 Mar Papers that NEVER date
Compared to paint, wallpaper is so robust that it can go on forever (as you might have discovered when preparing old walls for redecorating). So there’s all the more reason to choose an ageless wallpaper that won’t go out of fashion in a hurry – or ever.
The secret to choosing a wallpaper that will never date is to choose something that isn’t too fussy and which comes in a classic palette of colours. For me the perfect example is Colefax and Fowler’s Snow Tree that costs £62 a roll (from wallpaperdirect.com.com) that is one of my favourite choices for a bedroom. It comes in a range of soft, usable colours with a range of printed linens also available. NEW – to get the look see my scheme ‘A long standing favourite from Colefax’.
For TV rooms, halls and studies, another design that is firmly in the PatternSpy Top 10 is Flying Ducks from Mulberry Home – the rich, moody palate of colours is perfectly in tune with the English countryside. It is £95 a roll from amara.com.
Another good bet is William Morris whose designs are enjoying something of a revival at the moment (although they never really went out of fashion). Consider Fruit that costs £72 a roll from johnlewis.com. For a simpler more modern take on Morris, look at Rosehip (£56 a roll from wallpaperdirect.com).
