Emma Bridgewater Daisy Spot blue wallpaper

Small scale pattern

I’m always surprised at how hard it is to find small scale pattern that isn’t…how shall I put this…. prim and cutesy?  It’s a pity really because small patterns do a really important job if you want to create an intimate, layered look.  They are also make a better backdrop to hang pictures on.

My favourite is the charming Daisy Spot by the designer Emma Bridgewater (£49 a roll, John Lewis). Another is Designers Guild’s Meadow Leaf (£43 a roll Jane Clayton) that I love so much that I chose it for my daughter’s bedroom.   It also comes as a fabric.   For something with a more contemporary feel,  consider the ultra chic Hicks Hexagon (£76 a roll, Amara).
