I love it when rooms reflect their surroundings. In towns they can be smart and civilised, while in the country they can reflect the flora, fauna and mad rustic pursuits that characterise rural life. One of my favourite sporting wallpapers is Lewis & Wood’s wonderful Fly Fishing (£82 a roll from wallpaperdirect.com), photographed here by Alun Calendar for Country Life Magazine. Based on an engraving that depicts some fishing scene from some long lost age, it’s ideal for studies, small sitting rooms, downstairs loos, laundry rooms and boot rooms.
For those with a more equestrian bent, there is also Sanderson’s Tally Ho that has the the same quirky classic character and costs £58 a roll, also from wallpaperdirect.com.
For a more pastoral feel you might also consider Lewis and Wood’s Royal Oak (£77 per metre, lewisandwood.co.uk).
