Pattern for kids

Maybe I’m a terrible mother but I’m quite averse to fabrics and wallpapers that are too overtly childish.  Hanging wallpaper with designs based on nursery characters might be part of the nesting process, but it is more for us than our offspring.  My solution for a children’s bedroom wallpaper is to opt for something that is simple, chic and not too age specific.  They also grow up really really quickly and you don’t want to start again in a couple of years.

Here are three suggestions for children’s bedrooms:

Ideal for boys and girls wallpaper is Sanderson’s wonderful Scribbler, £40 a roll from wallpaperdirect.com.

A fun and creative alternative for either boys or girls is Graham & Brown’s Frames wallpaper (£23 a roll from grahambrown.com) that encourages children to display artwork, photos or post cards on their walls.

For girls bedrooms young and old is the simple and completely timeless Catherine Rose fabric (£55 a metre) and wallpaper (£48 a roll) from the wonderful cabbagesandroses.com.  By the way, you can now also buy bedlinen in this design; a double duvet cover costs £55 from johnlewis.com.
