Birdie Fortescue, the interior designer and antique dealer who also sells a huge range of accessories, lighting and tableware, has just added two brand new ‘go anywhere’ fabric designs that are true to her relaxed style. In a very usable colour palette and hand block printed on soft linen, the designs are part of her Mishran collection.
This is her very first collection of fabric by the metre. and comprises a gentle marble and subtle crosshatch. The marble design was inspired by traditional marbling techniques but interpreted in a new way. She worked with a local designer who created an original artwork using poured acrylic on a ceramic tile which was transformed into a digital print on fine linen. This design is available in soft Cerulean and delicate Blossom.
Her second design was inspired by African Kente cloth and was hand drawn before being block printed in India on fine linen in three colours; Vetiver, Coral and Cerulean. Traditional Kente cloth is produced in narrow woven strips which are then stitched together to form bolts of cloth. Patterns usually consist of lines and simple motifs on a small scale which create a dense, textural look once put together. For this print she has stripped this idea down to its most basic form to create a linear print on a small scale. All are £60 metre from the PatternSpy shop.
